Ode to Garlic

A couple weeks ago we pickled some of our garlic in order to make it last longer. We still have several bulbs of garlic to enjoy through winter. Garlic just makes everything better! Here is a short slide show of planting, harvesting and curing garlic. Quite a process and so worth it!

    Great video Annabelle – love garlic. How did you get them so clean though? I did all the above steps, and hung them to cure and brushed them off, but they still were sort of dirty on the outside… not a big deal, but yours look so much nicer.

      Thanks, Chris! When we hung them to dry we cleaned off the bulk of the dirt. After curing them, we peeled off the outer layer of skin, which sort of fell off anyway. With it went the dirt that was left on them. Regardless of dirt, I’m sure yours tastes awesome!

      We usually harvest the garlic sometime in July. Growing your own garlic is so satisfying I highly recommend it, at a minimum find a local farmer that grows nice hard neck varieties. You will never want garlic from China again.

      we usually wait 3 to 4 weeks until the stalks are brown and dry, and the outer layers of the garlic skin peels off easily.
