Hoop house update

Well, it took awhile for the temps to warm up enough, but last weekend we finally got the hoop house skinned! A shout out to Ryan Kennedy (Turning Point Farm) and Justin Husher (Old Husher’s Farm) for coming out to lend a hand and of course our WWOOF volunteers for learning along with us as we built the frame. Below is a stop motion video of the whole project. I am pleased to report that the massive winds of the past few days have not had any impact on the hoop house (thanks to Spink for doing all the research to make this thing solid!).

If you are looking to build your own hoop house, there is an awesome local resource – Tunnel Vision Hoops. These guys are also local farmers and they have a bunch of innovative ideas from their own experience.

  1. happy to have caught eric at the farm yesterday and check out the farm first hand.

kudos on what you are doing to bring the idea of sustainability and local foods home.

great vid! along with enjoying watching the process of constructing the hoop house the dog play was particularly fun!!!

    • Kim,
Sorry we didn’t get a chance to meet in person, but glad you got a chance to visit the farm! Hope to meet you soon.

  2. Thanks for the “shout out” we appreciate it. I wish we would have had a chance to quote you before you built it. If you need anything like roll-up sides, rainwater harvesting system, growing benches etc. Let us know. And if your bender is just going to collect dust we would buy it as a back-up for our fabrication shop. What did the project cost when completed & did you track man (woman) hours?

    • Thanks Carlton…your team’s innovations are great and we will definitely reach out to you when we are ready for a bigger project. We will try to post an overview of the budget in a future post.

  3. the music rulz!
